The Indian startup is booming, with not only males but even women building an empire for themselves. While entrepreneurship comes naturally to Indians, the current trend of many women entrepreneurs raising the bar is an absolute delight. Indian women have run SME business earlier as well, however, IT and tech were considered to be out of bounds for them. Indian women are putting an end to the misogynistic social view by leading in tech. To commemorate this feat, we’ve compiled a list of the top Indian women leading in technology.

Founder: Nykaa

This self-made women billionaire has marked her presence in Indian startup history with the rise of the online beauty and lifestyle store Nykaa. She started her career as a venture investor and merchant with Kotak Mahindra. In 2012, she announced her departure to pursue her dream and founded Nykaa. She is associated with one of the top B-schools in India, IIM Ahmedabad. Falguni was honored as ‘Businesswoman of the Year’ at the Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence 2019, for her contribution to the Indian beauty industry. Nykaa also had a blockbuster IPO in 2022 making her one of the frontrunners in Indian ecommerce leaders.

Upasana Taku

Co-Founder: Mobikwik

MobiKwik, was founded by Upasana Taku and Bipin Preet Singh in April 2009. It is a one-stop destination that allows users to shop at stores, pay bills, recharge, send money, and accept payments with one tap. The app connects over 30 million users with 75,000 retailers. Upasana is an alumnus of Stanford University with over 10+ experience in the fintech sector. She has been awarded the “Best Woman Entrepreneur Award 2017” by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). 

Roshni Nadar Malhotra

CEO and Chairperson: HCL Technologies

Roshni Nadar Malhotra is the Chairperson and  CEO of HCL Corporation, a Trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, and the Founder and Trustee of The Habitats Trust. She is the daughter of Shiv and Kiran Nadar and the first woman to lead a listed IT company in India. She is a legend who is ranked 54th on Forbes’ list of the world’s 100 most powerful women. Before joining HCL, she was a successful NEWS producer at Sky News in the United Kingdom. 

 Debjani Ghosh

Debjani is a veteran of the technology industry. She was the first woman to lead Intel India, Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT). NASSCOM is a non-profit organization that provides a venue for developing firms to network and promote their products. National, international, regional, and flagship events are all hosted by NASSCOM.

Akanksha Hazari

Akanksha Hazari is a second-time entrepreneur with over a decade of business experience across India, MENA, and the US. She founded LoveLocal in January 2020. Akanksha has been the only Indian tech entrepreneur to be featured in the book ‘100 Women Using their Power to Empower. She is also an alumnus of prestigious institutes like Princeton and Cambridge. She has been acknowledged globally, with The Hult Prize 2011.
